Something fundamental revealed itself to me as I looked at these pictures of children at play from around the world. What they are “doing” is a result of their relationship with their physical world. We see their relationship to animals, and geography and a whole lot of depictions of relationship with water – in its many forms. Even the hand built contraptions have been created with the singular purpose of facilitating the relationship with the laws of physics.
It occurs to me that “play” is the way we practice being physical.
